Description

I started out by painting the roses in watercolor. While a petal was still wet, I would use an embossing tool to add bruise lines for veining or shadow. After a petal was dry, I would add in some detail and shadow with colored pencils. I also added white highlights to the petals with a white gel pen. For the leaves, I used the Stabilo pens (a yellow, med. green, and green) to color the leaves in roughly. I would then paint the leaves in with a glaze of green watercolor, which caused the water-based ink in the pens to blend. I used the colored pencils to add any extra shadow/highlights and veining in the leaves where the pen might have washed out too much. After everything else was done, I used the watercolor pencils to lightly shade in the blues and purples of the background, which I then wet and blended with my brush.

9x12in.

Used:
Watercolor paint
Prismacolor colored pencils
White gel pen
Stabilo point 88 pens (water-based ink)
